Gals' Guide

In 2006, I decided to write down the lessons I learned from moving to the Big City. A few stories turned into a blog. That blog turned into a national community of writers. That community turned into summit.

The daily writing for Gals' Guide is on hiatus, however, I'm evolving the idea into a utility.  By using open data, we are exploring ways to display niche data sets for women moving to Chicago.

This project continues to be a passion of mine, as I feel that the earlier you give a young woman the local tools she needs to understand her own backyard, the sooner she is to feel connected to her neighborhood. This feeling of belonging then grows into a larger, civic engagement. With only 17% of Congress being represented by women, data is the first step.
